Saxophone Quartet

Under the expert direction of Dr. James Umble, the Youngstown State University Saxophone Quartets uphold a distinguished tradition of excellence. They have performed numerous times at the Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium, the North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference in Arizona, public school outreach tours, and other venues and events.

Students rehearse on their own several times each week and also receive a weekly coaching session with Dr. Umble. Quartets give saxophone students valuable chamber music experiences (one player on a part, no conductor) and are exposed to a diverse repertoire of music steeped in a long and rich chamber music tradition. The ensemble's primary focus is on refining students' fundamental musicianship, developing technical proficiency, and fostering strong collaborative ensemble dynamics. Membership is open to all YSU students through an audition process, ensuring a high level of performance and artistry within the group.
