Orchestras at YSU
Orchestral ensemble opportunities at YSU provide students with dynamic musical experiences that are characterized by high standards, collegiality, and service to the community. The program also seeks to build a working environment based on mutual trust, respect, and shared ideals.
Orchestral ensemble participation is open to music majors and non-majors who seek to study and participate in ensemble performance through a range of repertoire. Our orchestras serve as valuable resources and enjoy strong relationships in our local and regional communities.
String Chamber Music
Regardless of whether you’re a performance major, another type of music major, a music minor, or another category of YSU student who loves playing music, the Dana School’s array of string chamber music ensembles is available to you.
Dana Symphony Orchestra
The Dana Symphony Orchestra has earned great public acclaim for its performances on campus and in the Valley. Repertoire selections are comprehensive, including works from the 17th to the 21st centuries and frequent collaborations with guest composters, our University Choirs, and other artists. Ensemble members regularly perform with area professional orchestras, including the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, the Warren Philharmonic, and the Greenville Symphony Orchestra. Auditions are open to all qualified YSU students and are held at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
