YSU Youth Orchestra
YSU Youth Orchestra
The Youngstown State University Youth Orchestra (YSUYO) is open to all area students, ages 13-18, by audition and presents two concerts annually. Dr. Michael S. Butler, Youth Orchestra Music Director and Richard Smrek, Assistant Director, are retained by Youngstown State University to provide artistic leadership.
The Youngstown State University Youth Orchestra program consists of two groups: the Symphony Orchestra, featuring woodwind, brass, percussion, and string instruments, and the Symphonette. While the Symphony Orchestra is primarily intended for high school-aged students, we do occasionally admit younger students with the passion and talent to participate. The Symphonette, which is a string-only group primarily designed for middle school-aged students, is conducted by Michele Prokop, Chair of the Boardman High School Music Department. Our groups are open to all area students and each ensemble presents two concerts annually.
