How to prepare for your audition

Admission to all programs in the Dana School of Music requires an audition or interview, and some programs require both. For specific information about audition and/or interview requirements, visit your area’s page.

Audition/Interview

Each year, on-campus auditions and interviews are held over three weekends in early spring term. If you are unable to attend one of these audition dates, your area’s audition page will provide information regarding alternative audition/interview options.

Auditions for admission during the 2023-24 academic year are:

● Saturday, January 27, 2024 | 8:30 AM

● Saturday, February 17, 2024 | 8:30 AM

● Saturday, February 24, 2024 | 8:30 AM

 

Before an audition may be scheduled, your completed Youngstown State University application must be on file
 

Schedule your audition
 

Once your YSU application is on file, you may choose your preferred audition dates. If you need special accommodations, please contact email: sawaltman@ysu.edu, Cliffe College Coordinator of Admissions + Recruitment.
 

You’ll receive the schedule and details regarding your audition via email at least two weeks prior to your selected audition date. Your audition(s) and/or interview(s) will be scheduled between 9 AM and 5:00 PM. Please wait to make travel plans until after you receive official confirmation of your audition/ interview date and time.
 

At least two weeks before your audition, submit the Music Teacher’s Confidential Report and the Confidential High School Evaluation Form.

If you’re not able to attend one of the on-campus audition weekends, check your area’s page for information about possible alternative audition/interview methods.

Final recorded audition submissions are due by February 15, 2022

Use the DSOM Audition Form to indicate you wish to audition via video recording and make sure to submit your recorded materials by no later than February 15, 2023. After your YSU application and two DSOM forms are completed, you may upload your audition materials.

No. All students admitted to the Dana School of Music are automatically considered for artistic merit scholarships and will be awarded based on your current strengths and potential for growth.

Yes. For details, please see information under Assistantships and Fellowships. Your audition for our graduate program is also your audition for an assistantship. These include tuition remission and a stipend.

All admission and scholarship decisions are sent via email by April 1.
