Welcome to the Youngstown State University Bands!
On behalf of the Dana School of Music and the many academic majors represented in our program, we invite you to become part of the YSU Band community. Every ensemble is open to all students, regardless of major, offering an inclusive and enriching musical experience.

Athletic Bands
Directed by Dr. Kate Ferguson, the Athletic Bands at YSU are proud supporters of YSU Athletics. They are an integral part of the university, and their commitment to sprit, innovation, and excellence is evident in every performance. The bands—the Marching Pride and Pep Band—perform at all YSU football and basketball home games, select away games, and numerous community events. As student musical ensembles, membership in both groups is open to students from all majors across campus.
Concert Band
The YSU Concert Band, directed by Dr. Kate Ferguson, is open to all YSU students, regardless of major, who wish to continue making music throughout their collegiate experience.
No audition is necessary to perform in this group.
Wind Ensemble
Directed by Dr. Michael S. Butler, the YSU Wind Ensemble is the premier concert band in the Dana School of Music, consisting of the top wind and percussion students. The ensemble performs a diverse repertoire, from contemporary works to time-honored masterworks, ensuring students gain exposure to the finest music written for the medium.
Auditions are open to all YSU students and are held at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
