Horn Choir
The Dana Horn Choir is an exceptional and highly active student ensemble within the Dana School of Music, renowned for its engaging performances both on and off the YSU campus. Under the expert direction of Professor Van Parker, the ensemble presents a musical collection that spans classical and popular music performed on both modern and historic instruments, reaching a wide range of audiences. Comprised of both undergraduate and graduate horn students, the group also welcomes non-major horn players to join this vibrant musical community.
Throughout its history, the Dana Horn Choir has performed in the historic Stambaugh Auditorium for the annual Dana School of Music Carols and Cocoa Holiday Concert, as well as the Music at Noon Series at The Butler Institute of American Art—an appearance that earned the ensemble a front-page feature in Youngstown’s local newspaper The Vindicator. The ensemble is also a highlight of the annual YSU Horn Day, where students and local hornists unite to perform as a mass horn choir, showcasing the power of collaboration and community.
In addition to these performances, the Horn Choir has actively engaged with the broader community through performances at Youngstown Phantoms hockey games, the Boardman City Park Holiday Concert, the Southern Park Mall Holiday Concert, and the Mahoning County Juvenile Detention Center.
