Dana School of Music professor Caroline Oltmanns has been awarded a Research Professorship from the YSU Office of Academic Affairs for the 2023-24 academic year. Her research, titled “New Female Composers of Music for and with Piano – A Gateway Collection and Compilation of the Creative Outputs and Initiatives of Women Composers of Gen-X and Beyond,” will be completed over a period nine credit hours throughout the year.
Dana School of Music students Joseph Lashner and Connor Remington were selected to participate in the 2022 Spectrum Brass Seminar at the Bay View Music Festival in Petoskey, Michigan July 8 – August 15, 2022. The five-week program welcomes students from universities all over the world to learn more about the brass quintet repertoire.
Part-time Dana School of Music faculty member Yukitada Onitsuka has been announced as the recipient of a Distinguished Professorship Award for the 2021-22 academic year. His Part-Time Faculty Teaching Excellence Award will be one of three awards given to Cliffe College faculty members at an awards ceremony in May.

The Dana Brass Chamber Ensemble held a recital Thursday, December 2, 2021, where they performed Eric Ewazen’s “Frost Fire.” Student performers at the recital included Ryan Bowden, Darren Thompson, Sevérino Paredes, Brandon Hackimer, and Zak Rahal.
The YSU Youth Orchestra, comprised of Youngstown-area middle and high school students, will perform their fall concert Monday, December 6, 2021 at 7:00 PM at the Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown. Featured music will include Gioachino Rossini’s “William Tell Overture” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”
Professor of music Caroline Oltmanns has been named a recipient of a Distinguished Professorship Award for the 2020-21 academic year. Provided by YSU’s Office of Academic Affairs, Oltmanns was awarded for Excellence in Scholarship. These awards are given to YSU faculty members each academic year in recognition of their outstanding achievements.
Volume three of the Jazz Alumni “Spotlight On . . .” series will welcome YSU alumnus Greg Parnell (B.M., ‘95) for a virtual interview Friday, March 19, 2021. Parnell is currently the president of Glenn Miller Productions, Inc. and is the founder and musical director of the Orlando Jazz Orchestra.
Countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, a headlining Metropolitan Opera soloist and Musical America’s 2019 Vocalist of the Year, will give a virtual presentation and masterclass Wednesday and Thursday, 2021 as part of the Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series.
