Cliffe College Performing Arts Series to open season with performance by Nobuntu

The Cliffe College Performing Arts Series will welcome Nobuntu, an all-female Zimbabwean a cappella ensemble, for the first performance of the series’ 2024-25 season. Celebrated for its vocal harmonies and vibrant performances, the ensemble’s music reflects the beauty and power of Zimbabwean culture. The concert will be held Sunday, October 27, at the Ford Family Recital Hall, located within the DeYor Performing Arts Center in downtown Youngstown.

Dana student and alum earn top honors at fall 2024 NATS Auditions

Dana School of Music student Erika Walker, along with Dana alumna Rachel Gardner, were awarded first and second place honors, respectively, at the fall 2024 National Association of Teachers of Singing Ohio Chapter Student Auditions, held Saturday, October 19, at Kent State University. Students of professor of voice Misook Yun, both Walker and Gardner placed in the Adult Classical – Treble Voices category.

2024-25 Department of Art Lecture Series to begin with guest artist Katie Butler 

The Department of Art Lecture Series will welcome guest artist Katie Butler as the first lecturer of its 2024-25 season Thursday, October 24, in the McDonough Museum of Art. From Southwestern Ontario, Butler’s work is rooted in expressive, personal scenes that invite audiences to explore the range of emotions that can be found in her pieces.

Musical theatre students win top honors at NATS competition

Musical theatre majors Brooke May and Ryan Bedi, students in YSU’s University Theatre, were awarded first-place in their respective performance categories at the 2024 National Association of Teachers of Singing Tri-State Chapter “Student Auditions” Competition, held Saturday, October 5 at West Virginia University. May and Bedi competed in the Women’s Treble and Men’s Tenor, Baritone, and Bass Divisions, respectively.

Dana School of Music to hold Wind Ensemble concert with Dana alumni

The Dana School of Music will welcome back 60 of its distinguished alumni to perform alongside students in the school’s first Wind Ensemble concert of the school year. Featuring music by Andrew Boysen, Michael Gandolfi, Alfred Reed, and more, the concert will be held Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 4:00 PM at the Powers Auditorium, located within the DeYor Performing Arts Center in downtown Youngstown.

Guest artist Michael Loderstedt to exhibit in Solomon Gallery

The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, located in YSU’s Bliss Hall, will welcome guest artist Michael Loderstedt to campus as he presents his work in an exhibition titled “Island of Little Truths” beginning Wednesday, September 25, 2024, through Wednesday, October 23. Loderstedt has been creating original prints, photographs, installations, and books for over 30 years.

University Theatre to open 2024-25 season with comedic “On the Verge”

YSU’s University Theatre will open its 2024-25 season with “On the Verge,” an adventurous comedy originally written by Eric Overmyer. Shows will be held October 4 – 6 and 11 – 13, 2024 in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall.

McDonough Museum to open fall season with “Legacy: 58 Years of YSU Art”

The McDonough Museum of Art will open its fall 2024 exhibition season with “Legacy: 58 Years of YSU Art,” to be on display from Tuesday, September 3 through Saturday, October 26. Featuring projects by current and past Department of Art faculty and staff, the exhibit is an exploration of innovation and tradition that imparts new vision and reinvestigates long-standing practices in the fields of art and design.

Dana School of Music to hold auditions for 2024-25 Youth Orchestra season

The Dana School of Music will be holding in-person auditions for the 2024-25 season of the Youngstown State University Youth Orchestra Saturday, September 14, from 12:00 – 5:00 PM at YSU’s Bliss Hall. Open to all area students ages 13 – 18, the Youth Orchestra presents two concerts annually. Audition video submissions are also being accepted through Wednesday, September 11.

Dana student awarded gold medal at Leonard Falcone Festival

Dana School of Music student Ryan Lamb has been awarded a gold medal at the 2024 Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival. A second-year student pursuing a Music Performance degree, Lamb competed against an elite field of musicians in the festival’s Tuba Division.
