Dana to host Summer Music Camp and Vocal Performance Clinic 

The Dana School of Music will once again be hosting its annual Summer Music Camp and Vocal Performance Clinic beginning Sunday, June 9 through Friday, June 14, 2024 on YSU’s campus. Open to children ages 13 to 18, the camp offers a unique opportunity for young musicians to immerse themselves in a vibrant musical community.

McDonough Museum to present three new exhibitions for summer season

The McDonough Museum of Art has announced that three new exhibitions will comprise its summer 2024 schedule and will open to the public Friday, May 31 and run through Saturday, July 20. Artists Sharon Dundee and Ron Krygowski and an exhibition curated by Heather Seno will be featured in this series.

Dana Voice Studio to perform “Little Women” for spring opera event

The Dana School of Music Voice Studio will present “Little Women,” an opera by American composer Mark Adamo, for its spring opera event Friday, April 26 and Sunday, April 28, 2024 in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall. Based on Louisa May Alcott’s novel of the same name, the opera follows four sisters living in New England during the Civil War.

McDonough Museum to host “Best of Annecy 2023” film screening

The McDonough Museum of Art will host a “Best of Annecy 2023” film screening Monday, April 22, 2024 at 5:30 PM in the museum’s lecture hall (room 3000). The program will include a series of not-to-be-missed, award-winning shorts and custom opening sequences from the 2023 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

“Junior Portfolio Review” to open in Solomon Gallery

The Department of Art’s “Junior Portfolio Review” exhibit will be open to the public beginning Monday, April 22, 2024 through Friday, April 26 in the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, located in Bliss Hall. All junior-level Department of Art students will present their bodies of work for review by a studio faculty committee in this exhibit.

Summer Festival of the Arts to return to Wean Park in July

Wean Park in downtown Youngstown will once again welcome art, culture, and music organizations to the area as it celebrates the 26th annual Summer Festival of the Arts. Held Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28, 2024, the event will showcase visual artists, live performers, culinary delights, and children’s entertainment.

McDonough Museum to open two new exhibits that celebrate student work

The McDonough Museum of Art will present two new exhibitions to the public beginning Friday, April 19, 2024, through Saturday, May 4. The “Spring 2024 Graduating B.F.A. Exhibition” and the “Art Education Alumni Invitational Exhibition” will both celebrate the work done by current and former students of Cliffe College’s Department of Art.

Beecher Art & Technology Lecture Series to welcome Johannes DeYoung

Internationally recognized artist and filmmaker Johannes DeYoung will give a presentation as part of the Beecher Art & Technology Lecture Series Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 5:30 PM in the McDonough Museum of Art lecture hall (room 3000). He currently serves as an assistant professor of electronic and time-based media at Carnegie Mellon University.

Judith Rae Solomon Gallery to exhibit work by Serbian-American artist Natalija Mijatovic

The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery will exhibit the work of Serbian-American artist Natalija Mijatovic in a new exhibit titled “Of Snow and Sorrow” beginning Monday, March 25, 2024. Works in the exhibit examine quiet voids, repetition, and memory.

Record producer Ian Nagoski to join Beecher Art & Technology Lecture Series

The Beecher Art & Technology Lecture Series will welcome music researcher and record producer Ian Nagoski for a presentation Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 5:30 PM in the McDonough Museum of Art lecture hall (room 3000). His lecture will focus on non-English language recordings from the 1920s to the 1950s.
