McDonough Museum named as recipient of Ohio Arts Council Sustainability Grant

The McDonough Museum of Art and the Cliffe College of Creative Arts have been named as recipients of a Sustainability Grant in the amount of $12,200 from the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) Board. The funding, part of over $22 million in arts grants approved by the OAC for fiscal year 2025, will be used to support McDonough and Cliffe College programs, including the Emerging Artist Series.

University Theatre students to make international debut at Edinburgh Festival Fringe

14 University Theatre students will travel to Edinburgh, Scotland, this August to make their international performance debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Performing as the Steel Penguin Ensemble, the students will participate in the production of the Off-Broadway musical “Here There Be Dragons.”

Dana to host Summer Music Camp and Vocal Performance Clinic 

The Dana School of Music will once again be hosting its annual Summer Music Camp and Vocal Performance Clinic beginning Sunday, June 9 through Friday, June 14, 2024 on YSU’s campus. Open to children ages 13 to 18, the camp offers a unique opportunity for young musicians to immerse themselves in a vibrant musical community.

Art professor attends Lilly Conference for Teaching and Learning in Texas

Professor of art Dragana Crnjak, alongside eight other YSU faculty members, attended the Lilly Conference for Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning in Austin, Texas May 20 – 22, 2024. The Lilly Conference provides a forum for educators to share and model their scholarly approaches to teaching and learning that report quality learning outcomes and promote professional development of faculty.

McDonough Museum to present three new exhibitions for summer season

The McDonough Museum of Art has announced that three new exhibitions will comprise its summer 2024 schedule and will open to the public Friday, May 31 and run through Saturday, July 20. Artists Sharon Dundee and Ron Krygowski and an exhibition curated by Heather Seno will be featured in this series.

McDonough director to be awarded YSU Distinguished Service Award

Claudia Berlinski, director of the McDonough Museum of Art, will be awarded a YSU Distinguished Service Award at the annual Faculty and Staff Showcase Tuesday, April 30, 2024 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. A successful artist and educator, Berlinski’s work is included in several public and private collections.

Dana professor to be awarded Distinguished Professorship Award

Professor of music Paul Louth will receive a YSU Distinguished Professorship Award at the annual Faculty and Staff Showcase Tuesday, April 30, 2024 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. Specializing in jazz, brass, and wind band pedagogy, Louth is an active composer and arranger in addition to his academic work.

McDonough Museum to host “Best of Annecy 2023” film screening

The McDonough Museum of Art will host a “Best of Annecy 2023” film screening Monday, April 22, 2024 at 5:30 PM in the museum’s lecture hall (room 3000). The program will include a series of not-to-be-missed, award-winning shorts and custom opening sequences from the 2023 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Dana School of Music opera program to present "Little Women"

The Dana School of Music opera program will present “Little Women,” an opera by American composer Mark Adamo, for its spring opera event Friday, April 26 and Sunday, April 28, 2024 in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall. Based on Louisa May Alcott’s novel of the same name, the opera follows four sisters living in New England during the Civil War.

“Junior Portfolio Review” to open in Solomon Gallery

The Department of Art’s “Junior Portfolio Review” exhibit will be open to the public beginning Monday, April 22, 2024 through Friday, April 26 in the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, located in Bliss Hall. All junior-level Department of Art students will present their bodies of work for review by a studio faculty committee in this exhibit.
