University Theatre presents production of “Godspell”

University Theatre presents production of “Godspell”

YSU’s University Theatre will continue its 2022-23 season with the production of “Godspell,” a musical based on the Gospel of Matthew from the New Testament of the Bible. The show is structured in parables and is interspersed with music set to the lyrics of traditional hymns. “Godspell” will run November 11 – 20, 2022 in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall on YSU’s campus.

As part of the YSU Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS), YSU will welcome artist Kyla Zoe Rafert to campus. Rafert will lecture on mixed-media techniques Monday, October 17, 2022 at 5:10 PM in the McDonough Museum of Art lecture hall (room 3000), with a demonstration being held Tuesday, October 18 at 11:00 AM in room 4025 of Bliss Hall.

Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series welcomes Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble

The Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series will welcome the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, one of the world’s most popular dance companies, to campus Monday, October 17, 2022 at 7:00 PM in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall on YSU’s campus. The Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation’s mission is to further the vision of choreographer, dancer, and cultural leader Alvin Ailey by creating an extended cultural community that provides dance performances, training and education, and community programs for people all over the world.

YSU Dana Symphony Orchestra to perform “The Planets”

Under the direction of conductor Michael Butler, the YSU Dana Symphony Orchestra will perform "The Planets,” a seven-movement orchestral suite, Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 7:30 PM in the Powers Auditorium of the DeYor Performing Arts Center in downtown Youngstown, Ohio.

YSU University Theatre opens 2022-23 season with “The Revolutionists”

YSU University Theatre will open its 2022-23 season with Lauren Gunderson’s comedy "The Revolutionists” Friday, September 30, 2022 at 7:30 PM in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall on YSU’s campus. Directed by associate professor of acting and directing Matthew Mazuroski, "The Revolutionists" is set in Paris in 1793 during the social and political angst of the French Revolution.

McDonough Museum of Art opens fall 2022 exhibitions

The work of five diverse artists will open the fall 2022 exhibition schedule at Youngstown State University’s McDonough Museum of Art Tuesday, September 6, 2022. The exhibitions, which run through Saturday, October 29, are free and open to the public. An opening reception will be held Friday, September 9 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the museum.

Cliffe College of Creative Arts welcomes Adam Howard to faculty

Cliffe College of Creative Arts will welcome Adam Howard to its faculty as he joins the Dana School of Music and University Theatre staff as a musical theater lecturer. Howard is an American-born and British-trained performer, playwright, and music director whose research focuses on Panto and musical theatre voice pedagogy. He has performed and taught in half a dozen countries on three continents and is thrilled to make YSU his home

Pipino Performing Arts Series announces fifth season lineup

Cliffe College of Creative Arts has announced the lineup for the fifth season of the Pipino Performing Arts Series. The season will open with the return of marionette artist Phillip Huber, who was the first performer in the series’ inaugural 2018-19 season. Other artists featured in the season will include Ailey II, the Vijay Iyer Trio, the Diderot Quartet, and more.

Dana School of Music alumna places in Meistersinger Competition

Marlina Karimi (M.M., ’22), a former student of professor of music Misook Yun, was awarded third place in the American Institute of Musical Studies’ Meistersinger Competition in Graz, Austria during the summer of 2022. She performed Rosalinda from the “Die Fledermaus” Act II finale.

YSU’s Dana School of Music will be hosting Music at Noon concerts during the fall 2022 semester. Concerts will be held Wednesdays at 12:15 PM in The Butler Institute of American Art, located on YSU’s campus. Admission is free.
