Pipino Performing Arts Series to welcome René Izquierdo

The Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series will welcome classical guitarist René Izquierdo to campus Saturday and Sunday, November 13 and 14, 2021. Izquierdo will present a free masterclass November 13 at 3:00 PM in YSU’s Bliss Recital Hall and will perform a concert November 14 in the North Hall of The Butler Institute of American Art at 3:00 PM.

Judith Rae Solomon Gallery to feature 18 student art sculptures

The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, located in YSU’s Bliss Hall, will feature 18 sculptures by students enrolled in the YSU Department of Art November 8 – 19, 2021. The exhibit is free and open to the public 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Dana School of Music to present “We Rise Again” fall choral concert 

YSU’s Dana School of Music will present their fall choral concert titled “We Rise Again” Monday, November 8, 2021 at 7:30 PM at the St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown. Performers at the concert will include the Dana Chorale, directed by associate professor of music Hae-Jong Lee, and Voices of YSU, directed by associate professor of music Daniel Keown. Jack Ciarniello and Kathy Miller will accompany the ensembles.

YSU’s Dana School of Music will welcome mezzo-soprano Linda Di Fiore to campus for a masterclass Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 3:00 PM at the Bliss Recital Hall in YSU’s Bliss Hall. Di Fiore has performed as a soloist in operas, oratorios, recitals, and in musical theatre for over forty years.

Jazz Quintet & Sextet concert to feature student compositions

Students in the YSU Jazz Quintet and Sextet will present their own compositions in a concert Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 7:30 PM at the Spotlight Theater in YSU’s Bliss Hall. Led by professor of music Dave Morgan, the groups will feature original music by YSU students Chandler Carpenter, Enzo Chiodi, Lucas Ciesielski, and Antwan Howard.

University Theatre presents Little Shop of Horrors

“Little Shop of Horrors” production opens through University Theatre

YSU’s University Theatre will present their production of the black comedy musical “Little Shop of Horrors” beginning Friday, October 29, 2021 through Sunday, November 7 at the YSU Ford Theater in YSU’s Bliss Hall. The story follows florist shop worker Seymour as he raises a plant that feeds on human flesh and blood.

YSU names new Director of Dana School of Music

Joseph Carucci named new director of Dana School of Music

YSU’s Dana School of Music has announced that Joseph Carucci was chosen via a national search to become the new director of the school beginning with the 2021-22 school year. Carucci comes to YSU after serving as the head of Eastern Kentucky University’s School of Music, where he also held a coordinator position in the music industry area.

McDonough Museum to present free screening of Toni Morrison film adaptation 

The McDonough Museum of Art will present a free screening of the film adaptation of Toni Morrison’s novel “The Foreigner’s Home” Thursday, October 21, 2021 in the McDonough Auditorium, located in the museum. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the movie’s filmmakers Rian Brown-Orso and Geoff Pingree.

YSU’s Department of Art will welcome painter Sarah Awad for a free virtual lecture Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 12:00 PM. Awad’s work depicts female subjects floating in indeterminate landscapes and celebrates the expressiveness of the human form.

The YSU Jazz and Contemporary Ensembles will perform their first concert of the 2021-22 school year Monday, October 18, 2021 at 7:30 PM in the Chestnut Room of YSU’s Kilcawley Center. The Jazz Ensemble will also feature music by award-winning YSU alumnus Bryan Kennard.
