The McDonough Museum of Art has announced that three new exhibitions will comprise its summer 2024 schedule and will open to the public Friday, May 31 and run through Saturday, July 20.

Sharon Dundee will present “Paper, Paint & Canvas.” Specializing in abstract-expressionist analogue collage and mixed media painting, she has exhibited her work nationally and won numerous awards. Dundee received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Youngstown State University (YSU), where she followed two divergent paths—painting and art history and graphic design and desktop publishing—with the latter becoming her main career focus for more than 30 years.

“My goal as an artist is to create new life from old forms. By mining a wealth of decaying material [such as] discarded photos, old newsprint, [or] books stripped of their covers, I seek to repurpose it. Through my work, I aim to connect the past and the present and hope that it may inspire the future,” Dundee said.

Ron Krygowski will present “CURIOSITIES.” After growing up in Girard, Krygowski received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Art. He then moved to Houston, Texas, where he created and displayed artwork at Alpha 2 Omega Gallery, the Art League of Houston, and the Texas Renaissance Festival. Since returning to Ohio, Krygowski has been working with clay at Studio 83 and the Trumbull Art Gallery (TAG). He has presented artist exhibitions at The Butler Institute of American Art and TAG, had a one-man show at The Hope Center for Art and Technology, and is a member of Random Acts of Artists.

“I have always been curious and drawn to world cultures and art. I am inspired by fantasy, Catholic imagery, costume, and embellishment with a philosophy of ‘more is more,’” Krygowski said.

Heather Seno serves as the curator for “I Just Like You: New & Inspiring Fiber Art.” Recently having graduated with a master’s degree in user experience design from Kent State University, Seno is an arts and design professional. She also earned her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studio arts from YSU.

“‘I Just Like You: New and Inspiring Fiber Art’ displays fiber artists working in a new way and often utilizing interdisciplinary backgrounds, combined with innovative technology, to assist with their creation process. These contemporary artists are expanding the tradition of fiber art with unique material use, production modes, and abstract compositions,” Seno said.

An opening reception for all three exhibitions will be held May 31 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the museum. The McDonough is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Entry to the reception and exhibitions is free and open to the public.
