Dana professor to be awarded Distinguished Professorship Award

Associate professor of music Paul Louth will receive a YSU Distinguished Professorship Award at the annual Faculty and Staff Showcase Tuesday, April 30 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.
Louth holds two bachelor’s degrees, one in music performance and the other in education, from the University of Toronto. He went on to earn both a Master of Music and a doctoral degree, both in music education, from Western University.
Specializing in jazz, brass, and wind band pedagogy, Louth is an active composer and arranger in addition to his academic work. He previously worked as an adjudicator for Music USA Festivals and Musicfest Canada and has commissioned works for various school ensembles, including two major works for YSU’s jazz and concert bands.
Louth’s research interests focus on critical music pedagogy, philosophical issues in music education, music education technology, and the intersection of formal and informal music learning. In addition to teaching, Louth serves on the research committee of the Ohio Music Education Association and organizes its annual graduate research poster session.
Tickets to the showcase are $30 for adults and $15 for children. Doors open at 5:00 PM. Dinner will begin at 6:00 PM with award presentations to follow.
