“Annual Juried Student Art & Design Exhibition” returning to McDonough Museum
March 12, 2025
The McDonough Museum of Art will once again host the “88th Annual Juried Student Art & Design Exhibition” beginning Friday, March 21, through Friday, April 4.
This juried show is a yearly tradition that features works by students who have taken classes in the YSU Department of Art during the 2024-25 academic year. Local businesses and individuals support this exhibition and its artists by contributing cash awards and gift certificates. Students are eligible to win awards in the following categories: ceramics, photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, digital media, and graphic and interactive design.
Sculptor Sidney Mullis will serve as the juror for this year’s event. Mullis, who recently exhibited “Caught Skies and Pillowed Pines” at the McDonough, has focused her work on puberty, the intimacy of forgetting, and the performance of gender.
Her work has been exhibited around the world, including in Berlin, Tokyo, England, Croatia, and the Netherlands. She has had solo shows at the Leslie Lohman Museum (New York), Bunker Projects (Pennsylvania), the Neon Heater Gallery (Ohio), and numerous others. She has also been named artist-in-residence at The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, The Wassaic Project, and the Women’s Studio Workshop, among others.
Mullis’ work has been featured in multiple publications, including Hyperallergic, Young Space, Maake Magazine, and Sculpture Magazine. She currently works as a reading interventionist for kids ages 5 through 18 with learning disabilities.
The McDonough Museum will host an opening awards ceremony for the exhibit March 21 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, with awards announced at 5:45 PM. Entry to the ceremony and the exhibit is free and open to the public. The McDonough is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
