University Theatre to open 2024-25 season with comedic “On the Verge”

YSU’s University Theatre will open its 2024-25 season with “On the Verge,” an adventurous comedy originally written by Eric Overmyer. Shows will be held October 4 – 6 and 11 – 13, 2024 in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall.

McDonough Museum to open fall season with “Legacy: 58 Years of YSU Art”

The McDonough Museum of Art will open its fall 2024 exhibition season with “Legacy: 58 Years of YSU Art,” to be on display from Tuesday, September 3 through Saturday, October 26. Featuring projects by current and past Department of Art faculty and staff, the exhibit is an exploration of innovation and tradition that imparts new vision and reinvestigates long-standing practices in the fields of art and design.

Dana School of Music to hold auditions for 2024-25 Youth Orchestra season

The Dana School of Music will be holding in-person auditions for the 2024-25 season of the Youngstown State University Youth Orchestra Saturday, September 14, from 12:00 – 5:00 PM at YSU’s Bliss Hall. Open to all area students ages 13 – 18, the Youth Orchestra presents two concerts annually. Audition video submissions are also being accepted through Wednesday, September 11.

Dana student awarded gold medal at Leonard Falcone Festival

Dana School of Music student Ryan Lamb has been awarded a gold medal at the 2024 Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival. A second-year student pursuing a Music Performance degree, Lamb competed against an elite field of musicians in the festival’s Tuba Division.

University Theatre unveils unique 2024-25 season lineup

YSU’s University Theatre has announced that its 2024-25 season lineup will be comprised of four unique productions, ranging from the historical set of “On the Verge” to the comedic musical “Pete the Penguin’s Vintage Variety Show.” The season will open Friday, October 4.

Guest artist Katie Davis to exhibit in Judith Rae Solomon Gallery

The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, located in YSU’s Bliss Hall, will welcome guest artist Katie Davis to YSU as she exhibits her work, titled “Domestic Instinct,” in the gallery beginning Monday, August 26, through Friday, September 20. Davis’s exhibit explores the creative power that can be found in domestic spaces and the everyday materials of human lives.

“Meet the Marching Pride” event to return to Stambaugh Stadium

Youngstown State University’s Marching Pride has announced that its “Meet the Marching Pride” event will return to Stambaugh Stadium Friday, August 23, 2024 at 3:00 PM. Attendees will be treated to a preview of the music that will be performed by the Marching Pride at YSU football games this season.

McDonough Museum named as recipient of Ohio Arts Council Sustainability Grant

McDonough Museum named as recipient of Ohio Arts Council Sustainability Grant

The McDonough Museum of Art and the Cliffe College of Creative Arts have been named as recipients of a Sustainability Grant in the amount of $12,200 from the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) Board. The funding, part of over $22 million in arts grants approved by the OAC for fiscal year 2025, will be used to support McDonough and Cliffe College programs, including the Emerging Artist Series.

University Theatre students to make international debut at Edinburgh Festival Fringe

14 University Theatre students will travel to Edinburgh, Scotland, this August to make their international performance debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Performing as the Steel Penguin Ensemble, the students will participate in the production of the Off-Broadway musical “Here There Be Dragons.”

Dana to host Summer Music Camp and Vocal Performance Clinic 

The Dana School of Music will once again be hosting its annual Summer Music Camp and Vocal Performance Clinic beginning Sunday, June 9 through Friday, June 14, 2024 on YSU’s campus. Open to children ages 13 to 18, the camp offers a unique opportunity for young musicians to immerse themselves in a vibrant musical community.
