Department of Art to welcome printmaker Lari Gibbons for 2026 Red Press Collaborative
March 5, 2026

YSU’s Department of Art will welcome acclaimed printmaker, educator, and innovator Lari Gibbons to campus beginning Monday, March 9, through Friday, March 13, as she spearheads the 2026 Red Press Collaborative event.
A professor of art at the University of North Texas, Gibbons teaches printmaking and spent a decade directing PRINT Press, the university’s professional fine art collaborative print workshop. Her practice bridges traditional and innovative approaches, combining analogue craft with digital tools such as laser cutters and CNC routers to create woodblocks, plates, and matrices printed by hand.
Gibbons’ work has been published in major texts on contemporary printmaking, and her prints are held in collections nationwide. She has held residencies at the Banff Centre, the Penland School of Craft, the Sitka Center for Art & Ecology, and Ucross Foundation. She has also led workshops at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center, the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and the Amon Carter Museum of Art, among many others.
Red Press Collaborative, a beloved annual tradition at YSU, invites a celebrated printmaker to campus for one week to work alongside Department of Art students in the creation of a limited-edition collaborative print. The resulting work is signed, numbers, and fully documented, and then made available to supporters via a donation of $125. All contributions are directed toward the printmaking program’s study abroad initiatives, student conference travel, equipment, and the annual collaboration itself.
During the event, daily collaborative printing sessions will be held in room 4025 of YSU’s Bliss Hall. Gibbons will also deliver a public lecture as part of the Department of Art Lecture Series March 9 at 2:30 PM at the McDonough Museum of Art.
