Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS) welcomes Kyla Zoe Rafert

As part of the YSU Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS), YSU will welcome artist Kyla Zoe Rafert to campus. Rafert will lecture on mixed-media techniques Monday, October 17, 2022 at 5:10 PM in the McDonough Museum of Art lecture hall (room 3000), with a demonstration being held Tuesday, October 18 at 11:00 AM in room 4025 of Bliss Hall.

McDonough Museum of Art opens fall 2022 exhibitions

The work of five diverse artists will open the fall 2022 exhibition schedule at Youngstown State University’s McDonough Museum of Art Tuesday, September 6, 2022. The exhibitions, which run through Saturday, October 29, are free and open to the public. An opening reception will be held Friday, September 9 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the museum.

The McDonough Museum of Art was awarded an Ohio Arts Council (OAC) grant in the amount of $11,625 as part of the OAC’s sustainability program. The OAC is a state agency that assists in funding and supporting the arts in order to transform Ohio people and communities.

McDonough Museum of Art announces summer 2022 schedule

The McDonough Museum of Art will open its summer 2022 exhibition schedule with five diverse artists beginning Friday, June 3, 2022 and concluding Saturday, July 16. An opening reception will be held Friday, June 3 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the museum. The exhibitions and reception are free and open to the public.

McDonough Museum of Art to host Cut-out Poetry and Collage Workshop

The McDonough Museum of Art will present a free Cut-out Poetry and Collage Workshop for teens and adults Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the museum. The workshop will be led by Michael Nyers of Fade Into a Blackout – Blackout Poetry.

Handel’s Ice Cream chief executive donates $100,000 to McDonough Museum of Art

Leonard Fisher, president and chairman of the board of Handel’s Ice Cream, will be honored Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 7:30 PM at the McDonough Museum of Art for his $100,000 gift to the museum. In recognition of the donation, the museum’s main gallery balcony will be named the Leonard J. Fisher Balcony.

African American History Month exhibition to open at McDonough Museum of Art

The McDonough Museum of Art will open artist Donald Black Jr.’s exhibition “A Day No One Will Remember” Friday, January 21, 2022 in recognition of African American History Month. The exhibition is comprised of a series of photographs of ordinary days filled with childhood play, imagination, and innocence and centers on black children’s premature loss of adolescence.

Pianist Melody Quah to open 2022 MUSE Series 

The McDonough Museum of Art will open its 2022 MUSE Series with a free concert by pianist Melody Quah Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 7:30 PM at the museum. Quah has performed extensively on the stages of her native country of Malaysia as well as across Asia, Europe, Australia, and North America.

McDonough Museum of Art opens 2022 with four new exhibits

Four new exhibitions that explore the COVID-19 pandemic, childhood, identity, and intimacy will open the McDonough Museum of Art’s 2022 spring season beginning Friday, January 21, 2022 at the museum. The exhibits will be open to the public through March 5 and will feature the works of Matthew Kolodziej, Piotr Szyhalski, Donald Black Jr., and Carnegie Mellon University’s M.F.A. class of 2023.
