Wind Ensemble

YSU Wind Ensemble

Directed by Dr. Michael S. Butler, the Youngstown State University Wind Ensemble is the premier concert band at the Dana School of Music, featuring top wind and percussion students. Performing a diverse repertoire, the ensemble has collaborated with distinguished artists such as Michael Colgrass, Colonel Jason Fettig, Sean Jones, Michael Markowski, Anthony Parnther, Joseph Schwantner, Donald Sinta, and Allen Vizzutti. These partnerships often include commissions that advance the wind repertoire.

Auditions are open to all YSU students and are held at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. For additional information about Wind Ensemble auditions, contact Dr. Butler.  
 

 

The Wind Ensemble has had the honor of performing at prestigious venues across the United States, including multiple appearances at:
 

  • The Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Conference
  • College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Regional and National Conferences
  • The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) National Conference
  • American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) National Conference
  • Carnegie Hall
     

Most recently, the ensemble performed at the 2024 OMEA Conference and the 2024 CBDNA Conference.
