Art students complete mural in future Deibel Park

The future Deibel Park has become the home of the newest mural completed by students in YSU’s Department of Art. The mural, which sits at 60 feet across and 13 feet high and features 24 life-like penguin paintings, was designed and painted by art students Rachel Hritz and Verena Bo Gyeong Son. Professor of art Dragana Crnjak advised the students throughout completion of the mural.

Lit Youngstown, in collaboration with the YSU Department of Art, is seeking input for the second segment of the Andrews Avenue Memory Mural. Organizers are seeking memories from current and past residents of the Andrews Avenue – Logan Avenue corridor, which is set to be the focus of the next section of the mural.

Chris Sickels, an award-winning 3D illustrator and animator, will give a virtual presentation as part of the Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS) Monday, April 12, 2021 at 5:30 PM. Sickels’ illustrations and animations have been recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, and HOW Design Live.

Judith Rae Solomon Gallery to feature work of YSU alumna

The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery will feature a new exhibit by YSU alumna Emily Goerig (M.A., ‘20) titled “A Visual Exploration of Adolescence: Growth, Identity, and Resilience” April 5 – 9, 2021. Goerig created her exhibit as part of her graduate degree show.

“Small but Mighty” exhibit to open at Judith Rae Solomon Gallery

The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery has opened a new exhibit titled “Small but Mighty,” which is available to view on the second floor of YSU’s Bliss Hall Friday, February 26, through Friday, March 26, 2021. The exhibit, organized by professor of art Dragana Crnjak, features small-scale paintings that reflect her students’ explorations of color, surface, composition, and the synthesis between the formal and conceptual aspects of painting.

YSU Alumni Lecture Series to feature Larry Davis (B.F.A., ’76)

The YSU Alumni Lecture Series will feature Larry Davis (B.F.A., ‘76) for a virtual presentation February 11, 2021, where he will discuss how YSU faculty members shaped his career trajectory. He has had a lengthy career with Walt Disney Imagineering, the last five of which he served as executive producer and creative director for the main entrance of Shanghai Disneyland.

Cliffe College announces lineup of virtual events

YSU’s Cliffe College of Creative Arts has announced a versatile lineup of upcoming virtual events beginning Wednesday, November 18, 2020. The events will include a presentation by Scottish printmaker Murray Robertson, a masterclass by guitarists Jim Campilongo and Luca Benedetti, a performance in the McDonough Honors Recital Series, and numerous student composition performances from the Dana School of Music.

Scottish printmaker Murray Robertson will present as part of the Department of Art Lecture Series Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 1:45 PM on Webex. A master printer at the Glasgow Print Studio, Robertson’s practice is most influenced by the research, development, and application of digital imaging and printing.
