Judith Rae Solomon Gallery to feature 18 student art sculptures

The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, located in YSU’s Bliss Hall, will feature 18 sculptures by students enrolled in the YSU Department of Art November 8 – 19, 2021. The exhibit is free and open to the public 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Andrews Avenue Mural earns CityScape Beautification Award

The 500-foot-long Andrews Avenue Memory Mural, which was a collaborative project between YSU's Department of Art and Lit Youngstown, earned a Youngstown CityScape Beautification Award for Institutions November 18, 2021. The project, led by professor of art Dragana Crnjak, was funded by a Neighborhood SUCCESS grant from the Raymond J. Wean Foundation and was also supported by Youngstown CityScape and the Andrews Avenue Business Group.

YSU’s Department of Art will welcome painter Sarah Awad for a free virtual lecture Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 12:00 PM. Awad’s work depicts female subjects floating in indeterminate landscapes and celebrates the expressiveness of the human form.

Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS) to welcome Craig Clifford and Debbie Kupinsky

The Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS) will welcome artists Craig Clifford and Debbie Kupinsky to campus for a free lecture and two workshops October 5 & 6, 2021 in YSU’s Bliss Hall. Clifford is the head of ceramics at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, and Kupinsky is an associate professor of sculpture at St. Norbert College.

Art students complete mural in future Deibel Park

The future Deibel Park has become the home of the newest mural completed by students in YSU’s Department of Art. The mural, which sits at 60 feet across and 13 feet high and features 24 life-like penguin paintings, was designed and painted by art students Rachel Hritz and Verena Bo Gyeong Son. Professor of art Dragana Crnjak advised the students throughout completion of the mural.

Lit Youngstown, in collaboration with the YSU Department of Art, is seeking input for the second segment of the Andrews Avenue Memory Mural. Organizers are seeking memories from current and past residents of the Andrews Avenue – Logan Avenue corridor, which is set to be the focus of the next section of the mural.

Sickels’ illustrations and animations have been recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, and HOW Design Live.
