Guest artist Julia Betts to present for Department of Art Lecture Series
January 28, 2025

The 2024-25 Department of Art Lecture Series will welcome guest artist Julia Betts for its next installment Wednesday, February 5, at 5:30 PM in the McDonough Museum of Art lecture hall (room 3000).
Betts is a nationally recognized artist whose work focuses on the intersection of sculpture, performance, and installation. She creates art with the intent to push a range of materials to their limits, placing herself in precarious circumstances that function as metaphors of emotional and psychic vulnerability.
Betts’ work has been shown at numerous venues across the country. She has been awarded residencies through Yaddo, the Millay Colony for the Arts, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her work has also appeared in publications such as BOMB Magazine, Two Coats of Paint, and Femme Art Review.
Betts received a Bachelor of Arts in studio arts from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University.
Betts’ exhibit, “The Dams are Broken,” will be on display as part of the McDonough’s “Spring Exhibitions” through Friday, February 28, at the museum.
Entry to this event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Wick Avenue Deck (M30) for a $5 fee payable in cash only.
