Department of Art to welcome Sarah Awad for free virtual lecture

October 14, 2021

YSU’s Department of Art will welcome painter Sarah Awad for a free virtual lecture Tuesday, October 19 at 12:00 PM.

Awad uses vivid colors to explore the sensuality of female nudity. Her work takes on inspiration from Fauvism, color field abstraction, and neo-expressionist works of the 1980s. She depicts her female subjects as amorphous masses floating in indeterminate landscapes, celebrating the vitality and expressiveness of the human form.

Awad earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and studio art from Claremont McKenna College, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration from the Art Center College of Design, and her Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles. Based in California, Awad’s artwork has been featured in exhibitions around the world and in numerous magazines. She has been the recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA grant, held a residency at Stitching Kaus Australis in the Netherlands, and was the winner of an MFA NOW International Painting Competition Award.
