Andrews Avenue Mural earns CityScape Beautification Award

November 19, 2021

The 500-foot-long Andrews Avenue Memory Mural, which was a collaborative project between YSU’s Department of Art and Lit Youngstown, was awarded a Youngstown CityScape Beautification Award for Institutions November 18.

The project, led by professor of art Dragana Crnjak, was funded by a Neighborhood SUCCESS grant from the Raymond J. Wean Foundation and was also supported by Youngstown CityScape and the Andrews Avenue Business Group. Student participants in the project were enrolled in Crnjak’s Mural and Site-Specific Painting course and received assistance from over 30 volunteers from YSU’s Sokolov Honors College and the Youngstown community to complete the project.

Youngstown CityScape presents Beautification Awards to businesses, neighborhood groups, and individuals who have taken the time to clean up, reenergize, or care for an urban area in Youngstown. As part of the recent award ceremony, one business, six public institutions, and seven individuals were awarded for their work in beautifying the city of Youngstown.

Youngstown CityScape is a non-profit community development organization whose vision is to encourage revitalization of downtown Youngstown, YSU’s campus, and adjacent neighborhoods in an effort to provide an attractive working and living environment for Youngstown citizens.
