Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS) to welcome Craig Clifford and Debbie Kupinsky
October 1, 2021
The Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS) will welcome artists Craig Clifford and Debbie Kupinsky to campus for a free lecture and two workshops October 5 & 6, 2021 in YSU’s Bliss Hall.
Clifford is currently the head of the ceramics program at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. His creative practice explores the transformation of common objects and investigates how context, expectation, and gaze affect our experiences concerning the things with which we live. He uses the technique of casting to transform found objects and forms into rich tableaus that use color and texture to alter the perception of space and draw the viewer into a complex experience.
Kupinsky is an associate professor of sculpture at St. Norbert College and maintains an art studio in Appleton, Wisconsin. Her creative work explores the ways we mediate experience through images and objects, intending the works to be familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. She welcomes different interpretations of her work by creating pieces using dense, overlapping materials that have been unmoored from their original contexts.
Clifford and Kupinsky will present a lecture Tuesday, October 5 at 4:00 PM in room 2200 of Bliss Hall. They will offer two workshops Wednesday, October 6 from 9:00 – 11:30 AM and 1:00 – 3:50 PM in the Bliss Hall ceramics lab (room 1059). The lecture and workshops are free and open to the public.
