Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS) to welcome animator Chris Sickels
April 7, 2021
Chris Sickels, an award-winning 3D illustrator and animator, will give a virtual presentation as part of the Department of Art Lecture Series (DALS) Monday, April 12, at 5:30 PM.
Sickels creates 3D illustrations and stop-motion animations with what can be found within an arm’s reach in his studio. He attributes this creative sourcing to the fact that he grew up on a small family farm where working hard was the only option and things had to be fixed with what was on hand.
Sickels’ illustrations and animations have been recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, and HOW Design Live. He was previously awarded three gold medals and a silver medal by The Society of Illustrators for both his illustrative and motion work. His stop-motion animated films have also been screened at various festivals, including the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and the Montreal Stop-Motion Film Festival.
Sickels is the author and illustrator of “The Look Book” and “BUILD!” and has illustrated the children's books “Here Comes the Garbage Barge,” “The Beginner’s Guide to Running Away From Home,” and “The Secret Subway.” He is also the owner of his own studio in Greenfield, Indiana called Red Nose Studio.
