Woodwinds
Study woodwinds in an engaging, rewarding environment
All of our woodwind programs are taught by world-class artist-teachers who will encourage you to reach for your personal best every day. You’ll be exposed to a wide variety of musical genres, styles, and instruments. And you’ll be inspired by colleagues who share your passion and commitment.
Woodwind studies at Youngstown State University's Dana School of Music include a rewarding and engaging comprehensive approach to learning the essential performance and teaching concepts of the instrument, an in-depth study of musicianship, orchestral excerpts, significant solo and chamber repertoire (such as woodwind quintets, saxophone quartets, flute ensemble, clarinet choir, smaller mixed instrument chamber groups, or jazz combos for those interested in working on their jazz skills), and larger ensemble experiences in the classical and jazz idioms.
Whether you’re pursuing an undergraduate or advanced degree in woodwinds at DSM, you’ll be equipped with the skills necessary to succeed as a performer, educator, composer, sound and recording engineer, and numerous other areas in which to position yourself for the countless opportunities in our communities, schools, and today’s creative industries. We hope you’ll consider joining us—we look forward to supporting your success!
