Graduate Conducting

Graduate Conducting

The Master of Music (M.M.) in Music Performance with a specialization in Conducting at DSM offers an intensive, performance-centered curriculum designed to develop advanced conducting skills for aspiring professionals.

During the two-year residency, students receive rigorous applied instruction, participate in diverse ensembles, and regularly conduct rehearsals and performances. The program emphasizes individualized mentorship, allowing students to focus on their specific interests, such as choral or instrumental conducting. Core coursework—including Graduate Analysis, Research in Music, and Music and Society—provides a strong academic foundation to complement hands-on conducting experience. Under the guidance of distinguished faculty, students gain the artistry and confidence essential for a successful career in conducting.
