Life is a Cabaret

University Theatre to present production of Tony- and Oscar-winning musical “Cabaret”

YSU’s University Theatre is set to present its production of “Cabaret,” the Tony- and Oscar-winning musical, to the public November 15 – 17 and 22 – 24, 2019 in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall. The production will explore the dark and tumultuous times of pre-World War II Germany.

Solomon Gallery to host third annual High School Mail Art Show

More than 150 postcard-sized pieces of art by local high school students will be on display at the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery through Friday, November 15, 2019 as part of the third annual High School Mail Art Show. This artistic movement, created in the 1950s, celebrates artists’ use of mail art to network and share their work beyond the traditional art market.

Pipino Performing Arts Series to welcome Rhythm Method String Quartet

The Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series will welcome the Rhythm Method String Quartet, an all-female group with a feminist flare, for a performance Friday, November 8, 2019 at 7:30 PM in The Butler Institute of American Art. The group is best known for the ways in which it highlights the creation of music by women.

Elusive Memory

Exhibition by Deborah Orloff to open at Judith Rae Solomon Gallery

The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery will host a new photography exhibition by University of Toledo professor Deborah Orloff, titled “Elusive Memory,” beginning Monday, October 7, 2019 through Friday, November 1. Orloff has been a professional artist for over 20 years.

National Marionette Theatre to kick off 2019-20 Pipino Performing Arts Series

The 2019-20 Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series will kick off with a performance of “Pinocchio” by the National Marionette Theatre Saturday, October 12 at 11:00 AM in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall. Geared towards families, the show is included in YSU’s Homecoming activities and will feature appearances by YSU President Jim Tressel and Pete the Penguin.

“Romeo and Juliet” and “Cabaret” highlight 2019-20 University Theatre season

The 2019-20 YSU University Theatre season, highlighted by productions of “Romeo and Juliet” and “Cabaret,” will open Friday, September 27, 2019 with “Speech & Debate.” The season will also include the annual YSU Dance Ensemble Concert, fall and spring cabaret performances, and two free productions created by YSU students.

McDonough Museum to open fall season with three exhibits by women artists

The McDonough Museum of Art will open its fall season with the works of three accomplished female artists beginning Friday, August 23, 2019 through Saturday, October 26. The exhibits will feature Whitney Tressel, Dana Oldfather, and Julie Mehretu.

Youngstown Percussion Collective performs at Percussive Arts Society Convention

The Youngstown Percussion Collective, featuring professor of music Glenn Schaft, Dana School of Music alumnus Ron Coulter (M.M., ‘02), and Dana seniors Anthony Tresky and Evan McCreary, performed at the 2018 Percussive Arts Society International Convention held November 14 – 17 in Indianapolis. The group’s repertoire included rare works by Lou Harrison and Franziska Boas.

Professor of art leads inaugural study abroad program in Scotland

Throughout the month of July, associate professor of art Joseph D’Uva served as the head guide of the Department of Art’s inaugural study abroad program in Glasgow, Scotland. Over the course of the month, students worked in the Glasgow Print Studio, an internationally acclaimed studio facility and gallery, to study various techniques in intaglio, relief printing, screen printing, and drawing.
