NATS auditions

Two Dana School of Music students awarded prizes at Ohio NATS auditions

Sophomore Rachel Jones and graduate student Lindsay Heavner, who are currently working towards degrees in the Dana School of Music, were awarded prizes at this year’s Ohio National Association of Teachers of Singing auditions. They are led by professor of music Misook Yun.

Heavy Hitters Cabaret

University Theatre to host “Heavy Hitters Cabaret” event

YSU’s University Theatre is set to host the “Heavy Hitters Cabaret” event Friday, October 18, 2019 at 7:00 PM in the Eleanor Beech Flad Pavilion, located at the DeYor Performing Arts Center in downtown Youngstown. Repertoire for the performance will include a preview of tunes from the upcoming University Theatre production of “Cabaret,” as well as music from “Les Miserables,” “Guys and Dolls,” “West Side Story,” “Phantom of the Opera,” and more.

Theatre student performs in two productions by The Millennial Theatre Company 

This past summer, sophomore University Theatre student Lexi Denney performed in two productions produced by The Millennial Theatre Company titled “Independent Heroin Project” and “Little Shop of Horrors.” Previously, she served as the female lead in the award-winning play of University Theatre’s inaugural Festival of New Work event.

Theatre student wins audition for full-time position at Cedar Point

This past summer, senior musical theatre student Mia Colòn won an audition that provided her the opportunity to work in a full-time position at Cedar Point in her chosen career field of musical theatre.

University Theatre student attends Open Jar Institute Summer Intensive

This summer, senior University Theatre student Jessica Hirsh attended the Open Jar Institute’s Summer Intensive Program held in New York City. The program, which lasts a week, consists of high intensity workshops in acting, singing, dance, and audition techniques.

Junior graphic + interactive design major Kayla Haywood recently won the 2017 American Advertising Federation’s Pittsburgh Pitch competition alongside a team. The event was held in November.

Graphic design student selected to exhibit in AIGA Competition

Manolo Villatoro, a junior graphic + interactive design student, recently had three of his design projects selected for exhibit in the 11th annual AIGA Flux Student Design Competition. His projects include a self-promotional publication design, a travel brochure publication design, and a vinyl record graphic design.

Internationally recognized interactive artist Ken Rinaldo, whose exhibit “Scatter Surge” is now on display in the McDonough Museum of Art, will present a lectures on Monday, February 3, 5:10 PM in the museum.

Jessica Hirsh traveled to Israel and back to New York City to participate in the nationally auditioned workshop, Open Jar Institute.
