Dana Ensemble to open season with Stravinsky and Walton performances
September 29, 2021
The Dana Ensemble will open its fall season with performances of pieces by Igor Stravinsky and William Walton Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 3:00 PM in the Ford Family Recital Hall of the DeYor Performing Arts Center in downtown Youngstown.
The Dana Ensemble is comprised of a flexible, modular roster of Dana School of Music faculty that is often joined by regional guest artists. The ensemble comes together multiple times each semester for live performances.
The concert will begin with a performance of Walton’s “Facade: An Entertainment,” which was scored for the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, cello, and percussion. The score provides accompaniment for rhythmic spoken poetry by Edith Sitwell.
The concert will conclude with a performance of Stravinsky's “Soldier's Tale,” which is a theatrical work based on a Russian folktale in which a soldier returning home encounters the devil. Allan Mosher, professor emeritus of voice, will provide narration for the piece. He will be accompanied by a number of Dana faculty and guests.
Tickets are $10 each for general admission, and entry is free for YSU students, faculty, and staff with a valid ID. Tickets can be purchased at the door or ahead of time here.
