Youngstown Percussion Collective performs at Percussive Arts Society Convention
November 20, 2018
The Youngstown Percussion Collective (YPC), featuring professor of music Glenn Schaft, Dana School of Music alumnus Ron Coulter (M.M., ‘02), and Dana seniors Anthony Tresky and Evan McCreary, performed at the 2018 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) held November 14 – 17 in Indianapolis. The group’s repertoire included rare works by Lou Harrison and Franziska Boas.
PASIC is an annual event that features over 120 concerts, clinics, master classes, workshops, and presentations given by the finest artists from all over the world. These experts educate festival goers on all areas of percussion, including drum set, marching, keyboard, music technology, and health and wellness.
The International Drum and Percussion Expo and the nationally recognized Marching Percussion Festival are held in conjunction with PASIC. The International Drum and Percussion Expo showcases over 120 exhibitors with the latest in percussion instruments, gear, publications, and services, and the Marching Percussion Festival includes competitions for individuals and small ensembles, a marching ensemble interactive clinic, and a DrumLine Battle.
YPC is a non-profit student organization in-residence at YSU. Founded in the late 1990s by then-YSU students Coulter, Nathan Douds, and Craig Hill, the collective works collaboratively with Schaft to integrate composer commission projects, premiere performances and recordings, and educational outreach events along with fundraising. Membership is open to any YSU students, alumni, and faculty.
