Undergraduate admissions

We’re excited you’re taking the first step toward becoming part of the Dana School!

Step 1: Apply to YSU

Before auditioning for acceptance into the Dana School of Music (DSM), you must be admitted to YSU. Be sure to provide all required support materials for your YSU application, including an official high school transcript. If you have questions about the YSU application process, contact the YSU Office of Admissions.

Step 2: Apply to the Dana School of Music 

All undergraduate programs in DSM require an audition.*  

Schedule your DSM Audition

Auditions will be accepted after the last audition date in February, but those completed by the last audition date will receive full consideration for a Dana Talent Scholarship.

*Students should be proficient in one or more areas of applied music. Proficiency levels are determined by auditions. Students not qualifying for the standard course of study in a major area of applied music may take preparatory work until sufficiently prepared.

Step 3: Prepare for and complete your audition

For information about the audition process for the program you wish to pursue, visit that area’s audition page. Complete an audition, as applicable to your program.

*If you are unable to attend one of the scheduled audition days, contact the Cliffe College Coordinator of Admissions and Recruitment at cliffecollege@ysu.edu or call 330.941.2346 for alternative audition arrangements. Admission is on a rolling basis. Auditions may still be scheduled after the listed final audition date. Pending scholarship funding, awards may still be available after the first round is extended.
 
 

Are you applying as an international student?

The YSU International Programs Office has detailed information to help you apply to YSU successfully as a first-time or transfer student, including deadlines for submitting supporting documentation.

Note that YSU has test-optional admissions for most students.

 

 

Are you a transfer student or current Dana student?

Would you like to transfer from another institution or another program at YSU? Are you a current music undergraduate student and want to change the music degree you’re currently pursuing? Or, are you interested in adding a second music major? We can help you with those transitions.

The first round of music scholarship awards are extended during the first week of March. it is recommended to audition on one of the audition dates, or prior to the last scheduled audition date in February.
 
Admission is permitted on a rolling basis, so auditions may still be scheduled after the listed final audition date. Therefore, pending scholarship funding, awards may still be available after the first round is extended.

No. All students admitted to the Dana School of Music are automatically considered for a Dana Talent Scholarship. These artist merit scholarships are awarded on the basis of your current strengths and potential for growth.

You should expect an admissions decision from us no later than two weeks after your audition.

Studio placement is based on the incoming student’s audition and the space available in the faculty member’s studio. After students are admitted to the Dana School of Music, they may request a specific applied teacher by reaching out to the area coordinator or their academic advisor.

Students may apply for spring semester admission. If interested or if applicable, please contact the Cliffe College Coordinator of Admissions + Recruitment.
