Scottish printmaker Murray Robertson to join Department of Art Lecture Series

Scottish printmaker Murray Robertson will present as part of the Department of Art Lecture Series Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 1:45 PM on Webex. A master printer at the Glasgow Print Studio, Robertson’s practice is most influenced by the research, development, and application of digital imaging and printing.

Dana Chorale to premiere fall concert “. . . How Can I Keep from Singing?”

The Dana Chorale will premiere their fall concert titled “. . . How Can I Keep from Singing?” Friday, November 13, 2020, at 7:00 PM on the Cliffe College of Creative Arts’ YouTube channel. The chorale will perform music by Thomas Tallis, Francisco F. Feliciano, Elaine Hagenberg, Jake Runestad, Dolly Parton, and Kirby Shaw.

Elegies: A Song Cycle

University Theatre to present new show titled “Elegies: A Song Cycle”

YSU’s University Theatre will present “Elegies: A Song Cycle,” the program’s second virtual show of the semester, November 13 – 15 and 20 – 22, 2020. Created by William Finn, “Elegies” originally premiered following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and deals with the emotional aftermath of that event and the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s.

YSU Alumni Lecture Series to welcome musician Jason Moncrief (B.M., ’02)

The YSU Alumni Lecture Series is set to welcome musician and YSU alumnus Jason Moncrief for a virtual lecture and presentation Thursday, November 12, 2020, at 7:00 PM. Moncrief graduated from YSU in 2002 with a Bachelor of Music in tuba and flute performance.

Virtual Choir behind Hope and Comfort

Dana Chorale participates in Busan Choral Festival and Competition

YSU’s Dana Chorale was invited to participate in the Busan Choral Festival and Competition’s Virtual Choir Festival October 24, 2020. In combination with the Busan Teacher’s Choir based in South Korea, the two groups recorded a joint virtual performance of “You Do Not Walk Alone” by Elaine Hagenberg.

Six Dana students selected to perform in new McDonough Honors Recital Series

Six Dana School of Music students who play piano, guitar, saxophone, trombone, and the flute have been selected as the winners of a new music competition called the McDonough Honors Recital Series. As acting sponsor, the McDonough Museum of Art will feature the six winners in high-definition video performances on their YouTube channel.

"Surface" Student Exhibition Judith Rae

Solomon Gallery to feature exhibit of student paintings

Through October 30, 2020, the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery is showcasing student paintings in a one-wall exhibition titled “Surface.” The exhibit was introduced as an effort to continue displaying student work despite the restrictions put into place because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

YSU Wind Ensemble to join Music at Noon series

The Dana School of Music’s popular Music at Noon series will return this semester with an outdoor concert performed by the YSU Wind Ensemble Thursday, October 8, 2020, at 12:00 PM at the Harrison Field Common.

Work on Andrews Avenue Memory Mural continues

The Andrews Avenue Memory Mural project, under the direction of professor of art Dragana Crnjak, is nearing completion as Crnjak’s students continue their work on the mural. The finalized image will feature a ribbon of memories submitted by current and former residents and visitors of downtown Youngstown.

YSU Marching Pride to perform pre-game and halftime shows at Stambaugh Stadium

Though the 2020-21 YSU football season has been put on hold, YSU’s Marching Pride will perform its pre-game and halftime shows at the “Meet the Marching Pride” event Saturday, October 3, 2020, at 1:30 PM at Stambaugh Stadium. The event is free and open to the public.
