Dance Theatre of Harlem to join Pipino Performing Arts Series

For its next performance, the Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series will welcome the Dance Theatre of Harlem to the DeYor Performing Arts Center Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 8:00 PM. Founded in 1969, the organization has grown into a globally acclaimed dance institution that is at the forefront of American artistic achievement.

University Theatre to celebrate Valentine’s Day with cabaret event

YSU’s University Theatre will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a cabaret titled “A Kiss to Build a Dream On” Friday, February 14, 2020 at the B&O Station Banquet Center in Youngstown. The event will feature nearly 30 students in performances of repertoire from Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Bruno Mars, Tony Bennett, Etta James, and the Dixie Chicks, among others.

Interactive artist Ken Rinaldo to exhibit at McDonough Museum

The McDonough Museum of Art will display the work of interactive artist Ken Rinaldo in a new exhibit titled “Scatter Surge” beginning Friday, January 24 through Saturday, March 7, 2020. Rinaldo will also present an artist lecture Monday, February 3 at 5:10 PM at the museum.

McDonough Museum announces opening of spring 2020 season

The McDonough Museum of Art will open its spring 2020 season with four new exhibitions beginning Friday, January 24 through Saturday, March 7. Featured artists will include Kristina Paabus, Ken Rinaldo, Kimberly Chapman, and a suite of prints celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Red Press Collaborative program.

Visual artist Nica Ross, instructor of video media design at Carnegie Mellon University, will present a free public lecture Monday, December 2 at 4:00 PM in room 1220, located in Bliss Hall.

Two student exhibitions to conclude McDonough Museum’s 2019 season

The McDonough Museum of Art will conclude its 2019 exhibition season with two new exhibits titled “Fall Graduating B.F.A. Exhibition” and “M.F.A. First Year and Collaborative Project Exhibition,” which will feature the work of numerous Department of Art students. The exhibits will be open to the public beginning Friday, November 22 through Saturday, December 14.

New exhibit at Judith Rae Solomon Gallery celebrates student printmaking

The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, located on the second floor of Bliss Hall, has opened a new exhibition titled “YSU Student Print Collection” that celebrates the printmaking work of Department of Art students. The exhibit, celebrating its tenth anniversary, will be open to the public through Friday, October 4.

University Theatre to present production of Tony- and Oscar-winning musical “Cabaret”

YSU’s University Theatre is set to present its production of “Cabaret,” the Tony- and Oscar-winning musical, to the public November 15 – 17 and 22 – 24, 2019 in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall. The production will explore the dark and tumultuous times of pre-World War II Germany.

Solomon Gallery to host third annual High School Mail Art Show

More than 150 postcard-sized pieces of art by local high school students will be on display at the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery through Friday, November 15, 2019 as part of the third annual High School Mail Art Show. This artistic movement, created in the 1950s, celebrates artists’ use of mail art to network and share their work beyond the traditional art market.
