Dr. David Thompson has taught music at every level from kindergarten to graduate school, most recently as the founding instructor of Career Tech Music Production and Guitar Ensemble at GlenOak High School in Plain Township, Ohio. Prior to joining Youngstown State University, Dr. Thompson has taught music education courses at Case Western Reserve University and Kent State University. His students perform concerts of original music, build their own instruments, and are often asked politely to “keep it down.” Dr. Thompson’s teaching and research interests lie at the intersections of music, education, technology, and curriculum design. An active presenter and clinician, Thompson has presented original research and led professional development sessions at numerous state and regional conferences and workshops. His writing can be found in Contributions to Music Educationand Excellence in Performing Arts Research.As a freelance audio engineer and composer, Dr. Thompson has mixed National Football League games at the Pro Football Hall of Fame and composed original music for numerous commercial and television projects. He holds a B.M. in Jazz Studies from Michigan State University, an M.A. in Music Education from Case Western Reserve University, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from Kent State University.
