Daniel J. Keown serves as Associate Professor of Vocal Music Education in the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University, where he teaches undergraduate music education courses. He holds degrees in recording technology from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, conducting performance at Indiana State University, and in music education/curriculum & instruction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory. Keown spent six years as a music educator with the Chicago Children’s Choir, teaching in the Chicago Public Schools and after-school neighborhood choirs.
His research and creative interests include the psychology of music in multimedia, film music, audiovisual and electronic music production, audio synthesis, and technology-based music instruction. Keown has most recently published research in the Psychology of Music, Psychomusicology: Music, Mind, and Brain, Music Educators Journal, Frontiers of Medicine,and the Journal of Music Teacher Education.
