Printmaking

Traditional + contemporary print media

YSU’s Printmaking area is part of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Studio Art, Interdisciplinary Studio Arts degree. Printmaking provides students with technical skills and knowledge, balanced with conceptual development within traditional and contemporary print media. You’ll follow a curriculum that offers a diverse range of media experiences and allows for a progression of technical, aesthetic, and conceptual development. You’ll also study lithography, intaglio, screenprinting, relief, monoprint/monotype, and photo- and digital-based printmaking applications used to create editioned prints, as well as unique, one-of-a-kind works. Additionally, many printmaking processes may be integrated into other media, such as painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, installation, and graphic design.

Facilities

Our printmaking facility is one of the most contemporary and versatile student printmaking studios in the region. The area employs many non-toxic printmaking methods and the safest equipment and materials in the field. The large printmaking studio has an attached chemistry room dedicated to etching, and a technology lab and darkroom annex that assists in incorporating archival digital printing, vinyl cutting and plotting, CNC routing, and the generation of photo-matrices into the curriculum.
