Stephanie Smith received a B.A. from Washington & Lee University in Virginia in 1989 and holds both a master's degree and a Ph.D. from Rutgers University. She has been a faculty member in the Youngstown State University Department of Art since 1998.
Smith has received numerous fellowships and honors, including a Fulbright fellowship (1995), a Samuel H. Kress Foundation fellowship at the Biblioteca Hertziana in Rome, Italy (1995-1998), and a Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst research grant from the German government (1995).
Smith's presentations and publications deal with funerary art and ritual commemoration in the Roman world, and Roman glass.
