University Theatre students to make international debut at Edinburgh Festival Fringe

June 26, 2024

here to be Dragons crew

14 University Theatre students will travel to Edinburgh, Scotland, this August to make their international performance debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Performing as the Steel Penguin Ensemble, the students will participate in the production of the Off-Broadway musical “Here There Be Dragons,” which was inspired by the tabletop game known as Dungeons & Dragons. The performance will follow a group of friends on the eve of their college graduation as they embark on one last Dungeons & Dragons campaign that forces them to confront real-life challenges and fears about their futures.

University Theatre faculty member Adam Day Howard, who will accompany the students on their trip, will serve as music director of the production. The original book and lyrics were written by Chase O’Neill, with music by Theo Teris and orchestrations by Scott Wasserman, who is known for his work on “Hamilton” and “Dear Evan Hansen.” The show will be directed by Austin Harleson, with Lisa Marie Howard serving as assistant director.

Performances will take place August 2 – 10 at 8:00 PM at Greenside at Riddles Court in Edinburgh. Tickets can be purchased here.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is a three-week festival held every August that celebrates the performing arts. Originally created as an initiative to celebrate European culture following the end of World War II, the festival is now attended by thousands of people each year who present numerous genres of the performing arts field to the public, including theatre, dance, and musicals.
