Department of Art students unveil TREK Coffee House mural

Students from the YSU Department of Art unveiled their latest mural for the city of Youngstown Monday, October 30, 2023 at TREK Coffee House, located at 1588 Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown, OH.

The mural was created by students enrolled in the YSU Department of Art’s Mural and Site-Specific Painting course. The project, led by professor of art Dragana Crnjak, involved 16 art students who collaborated together on the research, design, and painting of the 50x15-foot mural.

The students also participated in community discussions, individual sketching, and collaborative design, with the results of these projects being four visual concepts that were displayed at TREK during the Mahoning Avenue Fall Fest. Festival attendees were invited to vote for their favorite concept, with the winner being chosen as the mural for TREK.

The mural is a result of the partnership between the Youngstown State University Department of Art, Levi Smith, the owner of TREK, and the Economic Action Group. This mural is one of many completed by Crnjak and her students, with others being the Andrews Avenue Memory Mural, East Liverpool murals, and Vallourec.
