Beecher Art & Technology Lecture Series to welcome Johannes DeYoung

Internationally recognized artist and filmmaker Johannes DeYoung will give a presentation as part of the Beecher Art & Technology Lecture Series Wednesday, April 17 at 5:30 PM in the McDonough Museum of Art lecture hall (room 3000).
DeYoung earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2006. He currently serves as an assistant professor of electronic and time-based media at Carnegie Mellon University. Previously, he taught at the Yale University School of Art, where he was appointed the senior critic and director of the Center for Collaborative Arts and Media. He also served as a lecturer in design at the Yale School of Drama.
DeYoung’s work focuses on the intersection of computational and material processes. His moving-image works have been exhibited internationally at venues such as Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Alicante in Alicante, Spain, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, and the B3 Biennale of the Moving Image in Germany. He has also seen success at festival screenings in numerous countries, including Australia, Greece, and Ireland.
DeYoung is the co-founder of the periodic web journal Lookie-Lookie. He has served on the New Foundations Board of Study for time-based media at Purchase College, State University of New York, the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts Contemporary Art Council, and with the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts as a digital literacy consultant.
