University Theatre to present concert version of “The Music Man”

February 18, 2022

YSU’s University Theatre will present a concert version of the Tony Award-winning musical comedy “The Music Man” February 25 – 27, 2022 in the YSU Ford Theater, located in YSU’s Bliss Hall.

The musical follows traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons locals into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he promises to organize but has no idea how to teach.

“I am happy to share this bit of Golden Age musical theatre with our own greater Youngstown community as we endeavor to bring ‘The Music Man’s’ cast album to life on the [YSU] Ford Theater stage,” YSU music theatre program coordinator Maria Fenty Denison said. “Our concert version has retained a bit of plot, some staging, and a few dashes of choreography just to spice things up.”

The musical will feature the Musical Theatre Ensemble on stage, conducted by professor of music Kent Engelhardt. Songs will be sung in order with dialogue and movement in between pieces.
