University Theatre unveils unique 2024- 25 season lineup

YSU’s University Theatre has announced that its 2024-25 season lineup will be comprised of four unique productions, opening Friday, October 4, with Eric Overmyer’s “On the Verge.”
Season subscriptions and single-show tickets will be available for purchase beginning Tuesday, September 3 at 10:00 AM on ysu.tix.com.

The 2024-25 University Theatre season will kick off with Eric Overmyer’s “On the Verge,” an adventurous production set in 1888 that follows three women explorers—Mary, Fanny, and Alex—as they journey through Terra Incognita, a new, unexplored area of land. From negotiating with chameleonic cannibals to encountering eccentric trolls, this production promises to be a unique theatrical experience. The play celebrates the strength of a diverse ensemble cast and the magic of discovery and friendship.
“Pete the Penguin’s Vintage Variety Show: A Musical Comedy Extravaganza”
November 22 – 24
YSU Ford Theater, Bliss Hall
This comedic production follows musical theatre students as they confront the challenge of modernizing an outdated vaudeville script. As the students blend the charm of the past with contemporary flair, audiences will be treated to laugh-out-loud humor, vibrant musical numbers, and the energetic accompaniment of a live band.

Set in the rugged beauty of rural Ireland, J. M. Synge’s “Playboy of the Western World” is a classic masterpiece. This comedy follows Christy Mahon, a charming young man whose tall tales of heroism captivate a small village, leading to unexpected twists and uproarious laughter. This production combines humor, wit, and poignant themes of identity and acceptance, creating an unforgettable theatrical experience.

University Theatre will conclude its 2024-25 season with the Tony-nominated musical “[title of show].” Attendees will follow Jeff, Hunter, Susan, and Heidi as they navigate the highs and lows of creating a musical about creating a musical. With witty dialogue and catchy tunes, this show celebrates the creative process with humor and heart, leaving audiences inspired and entertained.
