University Theatre to open 2023-24 season with “Zombie Prom”

YSU University Theatre will open its 60th anniversary season with the production of “Zombie Prom,” a cult classic musical.

The show is set in the atomic 1950s, where a teenage girl falls in love with a rebel who becomes a zombie. The show is filled with catchy music, energetic dances, and a funny-yet-heartwarming storyline for audiences of all ages to enjoy.

Cast members include: Nicholas Atwood, Canton, Ohio; Ryan Thomas Bedi, Marietta, Pennsylvania; Emalee Chappa, Hawkins, Texas; Chloe Nicole Downey, New Waterford, Ohio; Mallory Ehrhart, Antwerp, Ohio; K.J. Hudson, Minerva, Ohio; Sam Law, Hudson, Ohio; Brooke Marie May, Columbiana, Ohio; Samuel Edwin Nabring, Aurora, Ohio; Laynee Nichole Sanger, Mount Gilead, Ohio; and Elise Ann Vargo, Westerville, Ohio.

The production also includes live music by the Musical Theatre Ensemble, conducted by professor of music Kent Engelhardt. Members include Jan Cox; Shane Hogle, Conneaut, Ohio; Wilhelmine Loe, Indonesia; Blake Maurice, Sharon, Pennsylvania; and Santino Testa, Boardman, Ohio.

In addition to director Adam Howard and conductor Engelhardt, technical staff includes music director Joe Spiro; choreographer Katelyn Cassidy; movement director Lisa Howard; scenic designer Todd Dicken; costume, wig, and makeup designer Katherine N. Garlick; and lighting designer Ellen Licitra. Student crew members include: Cy'renity Star Marie Bowman, Youngstown, Ohio; Crystal Fisher, Steubenville, Ohio; Kit Harper, Salem, Ohio; Keyshawn D Mitchell, Atlanta, Georgia; Helena Belle Snyder, Austintown, Ohio; Zakary R Snyder, Geneva, Ohio; Camryn Alexis Tighe, Marion, Ohio; and Ilse Zijlstra, Antwerp, Ohio.

The show will run October 6 – 8 and 13 – 15, 2023 in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall on YSU’s campus. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 PM, with Sunday matinee performances beginning at 2:00 PM. All seats are general admission. Adult tickets are $16. Special rate tickets are $9 for non-YSU students, YSU alumni, senior citizens, Penguin Club members, and groups of eight (8) or more. YSU students, faculty and staff are free with a valid ID.
