YSU University Theatre opens 2022-23 season with “The Revolutionists”
September 30, 2022
YSU University Theatre will open its 2022-23 season with Lauren Gunderson’s comedy “The Revolutionists” Friday, September 30, 2022 at 7:30 PM in the YSU Ford Theatre, located in Bliss Hall on YSU’s campus.
“Our University Theatre students will lead the audience on a journey of social and political controversy, where we contemplate the roles of violence, legacy, art, activism, feminism, and terrorism—topics which continue to be controversial today,” Dana School of Music and University Theatre director Joe Carucci said.
Directed by associate professor of acting and directing Matthew Mazuroski, “The Revolutionists” is set in Paris in 1793 during the social and political angst of the French Revolution. The plot brings together three historic women—Olympe De Gouge, Charlotte Corday, and Marie Antoinette—and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle, to write a play within a play about women’s rights before their own beheadings.
Cast members include Meganne Evans, Grayson McCrory, Elise Vargo, and Amberlynn Zuccarell. Costume design is by associate professor Katherine Garlick, with set design by senior lecturer Todd Dicken. Ryan Fitzpatrick serves as the production manager and technical director.
Performances are September 30 – October 2 and October 7 – 9 in the YSU Ford Theater of Bliss Hall on YSU’s campus. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 PM, with Sunday matinee performances at 2:00 PM.
