Production of “The Glass Menagerie” to kick off University Theatre season

September 18, 2020

YSU’s University Theatre is kicking off its 2020-21 season with a virtual production of Tennessee Williams’ classic play, “The Glass Menagerie,” September 25 – 27 and October 2 – 4. The show will follow a family of three as they struggle to keep up with the changing world around them.

"In these days of covid, the creative team and I are breaking new ground to deliver a high-quality theatre experience using streaming technology,” director Matthew Mazuroski said. “[To adapt the] traditional theatre experience into a more filmic experience, we are recording the work of the actors, designers, and crew. [This] allows us to continue our educational mission in a robust and rewarding way; one I strongly believe that our audiences will thoroughly enjoy."

The student cast includes Nate Montgomery, Columbiana, Ohio; Elise Vargo, Westerville, Ohio; and Mitchell Sharp, Beloit, Ohio. The production will also welcome veteran regional community theatre actor Molly Galano, who will perform the role of Amanda Wingfield. Galano has performed at the Youngstown Playhouse, the New Castle Playhouse, The Oakland Center for the Arts, and The Rust Belt Theater, as well as in two other University Theatre productions.

Technical staff includes scenic designer Todd Dicken; costume, wig, and makeup designer Katherine Garlick; production manager and technical director Ryan Fitzpatrick; sound designer Johnny Pecano; sound mixer Thomas DeLuca; sound engineer Ryan Donchess; properties designer Wendy Akers; lighting designer Nic Wix; video editors Donchess and Miles Garrett; and videographers Mazuroski and Garrett.

To adhere with COVID-19 safety precautions, the first mainstage performance of the fall semester is being streamed virtually. Friday performances will begin at 7:30 PM, and the Saturday and Sunday performances will be held at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM.

Tickets are $10 for a single viewer, $25 for group viewing, and free for YSU students, faculty, and staff with a valid ID.
