McDonough Museum of Art to host Cut-out Poetry and Collage Workshop

May 7, 2022

The McDonough Museum of Art will present a free Cut-out Poetry & Collage Workshop for teens and adults Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the museum.

Michael Nyers of Fade Into A Blackout – Blackout Poetry will lead the workshop. Participants will create a cut-out poetry and collage piece using magazine images and text from books.

Nyers is a poet, mixed-media artist, and author whose passion is creating blackout poetry. He creates this kind of work by taking printed text and blacking out words to create a poem or statement. He believes this kind of poetry provides a look into the subconscious mind that can promote mindfulness and creativity, which benefits an individual’s overall mental health and well-being.

This workshop is free and open to the public. Supplies will be provided. Registration is required by May 1, 2022 and is limited to 25 participants. Spots can be reserved by emailing mcdonoughmuseumofart@ysu.edu.

Photos of the collages created during this workshop will be posted on Cliffe College of Creative Arts’ social media pages in honor of World Collage Day, an international celebration of the fine art of collage that occurs May 14.
