The McDonough Museum of Art will conclude the fall semester with the presentation of two student exhibitions that will be open to the public December 1 – 16, 2023. The “Fall 2023 Graduating B.F.A. Exhibition” will feature the art and design work of students graduating from YSU’s Department of Art in December, and “Community as Canvas – Murals by YSU Students” will feature murals installed in the Youngstown community by students enrolled in professor of art Dragana Crnjak’s Mural and Site-Specific Painting course.

The exhibition by the graduating art students is their opportunity to share their original thoughts and discoveries with the public through creative expression. Students participating in the exhibition include Emma Baker, Alexis Best, Justus Lowther, Dominic Lynn, Justin McIntosh, Sarah Penick, Macy Roche, Celina Santiago, Sarah Schuler, Grace Smith, Meghan Smith, Kira Walker, and Claudia Williamson.

Crnjak’s Mural and Site-Specific Painting course teaches students the processes and steps needed to develop murals and large-scale paintings. Through their work on murals in the Youngstown community, students enrolled in this course learn about the processes of design, collaboration, discussion, site-preparation, and site-completion. The latest mural completed by students in this course can be viewed at TREK Coffee House, which will be opening to the public soon on Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown.

An opening reception for the exhibitions will be held at the McDonough Museum of Art Friday, December 1, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. The reception and exhibitions are free and open to the public. The McDonough Museum is open Tuesday – Saturday, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
