Juneteenth

The McDonough Museum of Art will present five new exhibits beginning Friday, December 3, including annual shows that feature artwork of graduating YSU Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts students.

The “Fall Graduating BFA Exhibition” celebrates the work of fine arts students who have immersed themselves in the areas of photography, graphic and interactive design, and interdisciplinary studio art. Student participants in this exhibition include Micheline Cleaves, Emily Fetsko, Anna Pugh, Bailee Rinestine, and Holly Yarab.

The “MFA Collaborative Project Exhibition” features the work of Master of Fine Arts candidate Katherine Williamson and projects by Bachelor of Fine Arts students Emily Eastlick and Lindsay DeLullo. YSU’s Master of Fine Arts program in interdisciplinary visual arts requires students to examine and integrate the methods, theories, skills, and insights from two or more traditional or non-traditional visual arts with non-art coursework.

“Talking with Mascots,” an exhibit that features the works of Francesca Baldarelli, Alex Ferrante, Jeremiah Ibarra, and Rachel Sanders, examines themes of time, life, and consumption. The exhibit includes images of in-betweenness and different textures.

Associate professor Missy McCormick’s exhibit “creating (a) space” focuses on domestic objects that have been common in homes for centuries and carry out specific functions in daily life. The objects are examined and reimagined through a loose sense of Scandinavian and mid-century modern design, paired with a focus on the practical, architectural, and essential elements.

The “Animation Hotline Shorts Exhibition” features the work of animation artist Dustin Grella, who works with the pastel on slate technique, which is also known as chalkboard animation. The exhibit is a series of short animations that allow anonymous callers to leave voicemail messages that are then animated. Grella’s other work has been awarded internationally and has been screened at the Cannes and Sundance Film Festivals, the Museum of Modern Arts, and by The New York Times. Grella currently teaches at Queens College in New York.

An opening reception for the exhibits will be held December 3 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the museum. Entry to the reception and exhibits is free and open to the public. The museum is open 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday. Face coverings are required.
